If I were to pick one of the most inspirational movies from all time, ROCKY would definitely be among the top list. Something that drives me about this movie – The dialogues, music, compilation, action and also the way it is all portrayed and is brought together. This movie generates a set of emotions which I am very proud of, everytime I watch it or see a dialogue or read about it. Here are a few quotes which I feel indicate how strong words can be..
You’re gonna have to go through hell, worse than any nightmare you’ve ever dreamed. But when it’s over, I know you’ll be the one standing. You know what you have to do. Do it.
How do we react to situations where we find it extremely hard, where we feel that all hell is breaking loose, where we feel that there is not much of hope and we feel extremely weak to our knees. It does feel like hell, but staying there or getting out of it is a choice. In the larger frame of things – what makes sense is not how bad you feel, what matters is how well you fought cos you know that getting over something like this is one of the best things life is going to offer you and everytime you look back at this – You can look back with a BIG and proud smile.
Nobody owes nobody nothin’. You owe yourself
The natural tendency when we are down, we think of how many people we let down, our family, friends, relatives, society and a lot more other people. We feel that we owe it to them all to make things work. Maybe a part of it is true, but a bigger part is we owe a lot more to ourselves than that! The society can look down upon us, so can people around, but the moment we look down upon ourselves – that is the end. You can never let that happen. You own atleast that to yourself!
Going in one more round when you don’t think you can – that’s what makes all the difference in your life.
This reminds of another quote – “Most people quit at a point where they don’t know how close they are to their goal”. When the going gets tough, only the tough get going, the night is at its darkest just before it is dawn! I guess most times it is hard to get a feeling that nothing we do is working. But we don’t know that it might be that one last thing we do which will work the magic. Like they say – It is the last key in the bunch that works. Perhaps it is true. Going in that one extra round can make all the difference sometimes. If that is the case, doesn’t going in for one last time deserve a chance?
We often complain that it is not easy to change. Well it never is easy change and rightfully so cos we have been used to one lifestyle all through our life. A sudden change will meet with a rejection from within, a strong opposition. But beyond that is a beauty which awaits, something we have never really felt before, a thought that drives us and says if this change can make such a lovely impact, maybe there is more and change slowly becomes second nature. It need not hurt us anymore. It becomes something to look forward to, something to accept and something to grow and rejoice about.
Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!
Anything I say here, is not going to offer enough justice to this statement. This is one place where I would let the dialogue do all the speaking. It truly is one of the most mesmerizing thoughts ever!
Now if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth! But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!
Most times we expect the society and people around us to respect us for what we think we are. But the society treats us the way it wants to. Just cos we think of ourselves a different way doesn’t mean that the society needs to think in the same way too. But the society makes sure it tells us it is not, those definitely are the hits. But we do know what we are worthy of. The question is, do we let the society beat us to our knees or do we tell the society and prove it what we are. Maybe the society doesn’t need any proof, but we ourselves do to tell the society and ourselves that we are not cowards. We are way better than that!
I stopped thinking the way other people think a long time ago, you gotta think like you think.
The way other people think is precisely the way they are. We are not here in this life to be like them. We are here to establish an identity, a true meaning of our self. We are not here to belong, emulate and be like everyone else or try to be the sheep in the herd. Doesn’t matter what the sheep think anyway. You are not here to be the sheep. You are here to be what you think you are, it maybe the Tiger, maybe the Ram or maybe the sheep but that is what you think you are, not what others do!
It’s your right to listen to your gut, it ain’t nobody’s right to say no after you earned the right to be what you wanna be and do what you wanna do.
All along our lives we are taught the best lines said by the best men on earth. But somewhere along the journey, we are trained to do everything else apart from standing up to the beliefs we were born and raised with. It may be the society, maybe our friends, parents, relatives or it may be ourselves. We keep training ourselves to sober down, to blend in, to make amends cos it feels right. But lemme point out something which feels equally right – YOUR GUT! All along we are trained to think, to take time, to talk about the thoughts and then take a decision but the emphasis on the one thing that makes the whole change is amiss. It is upto you what you let to define you. I would choose the gut, it is all mine to go with. It wouldn’t be any other way!
