You Are Never Too Old To Set Goals – C.S. Lewis

I love these quotes on dreamsn and goals – they work like a lighthouse for us, indiciating where to go. The most difficult thing is to lead a rudderless life where we have no idea where we’re going. It makes us feel that life is pointless – we need a purpose or goal to associate ourselves to. This goal can be anything, the best way is to tie them back to our values. The inspiration I want to talk about today is this quote from C.S.Lewis – you are never too old to set goals.

You Are Never Too Old To Set Another Goal Or To Dream A New Dream

C.S.Lewis

Often people use age as an excuse. Most commonly you’d have heard people say – I’m too old for this, you don’t have enough time etc. But these are the wrong excuses. We have to start asking – how passionate do I feel about this, does this make me happy? Our actions have a different feeling to them when they come from a place of excitement – the excuses will not motivate us to carry on with life.

You are never Too Old to set new goals

Loftily, I want to start by saying Col Sanders started KFC at the age of 65 – but this is such a cliche that I’m embarrassed to mention it. But you get the picture, if you think of age as an excuse, you will find many people defying this logic. So, let’s not talk about the excuse, but the passion or desire to do something. This is where your goals should start from instead.

Never too old to set goals or dream – C.S.Lewis

Our age is just a number! Yes, it imposes some restrictions, but cannot be a blanket excuse for us to achieve our desires. Our age cannot always be the number one excuse for us to try something new or create new goals for life. The moment we stop having these goals, it is hard to find motivation in life. Instead, we move without a purpose and in the end wonder what happened. This quote is asking us to take that pause and take control over our lives. Dig deeper, find out what you like and set a goal.

Who said you are never too old to set goals?

C.S.Lewis – some articles also refer to Les Brown as the person who said you are never too old to set goals.

  2. This is not a Lewis quote, and he emphatically would never have said it. It is a modern american idea.

It’s okay to like it, it’s just not Lewis. I think it comes from being to a third cousin to his statement that any book worth reading at age ten is worth re reading at age fifty, with the added suggestion that if it is not worth reading at fifty, it probably wasn’t worth reading at ten, either.

  3. That’s quite true!
Colonel Sanders of KFC is a striking example. The more I see Buffet more inspired I get .. age is just a number

  4. I so agree.. Age has nothing to do with goals. We are never too old to learn something new, to do something new and challenge ourselves. That line , “It’s not that things get easier, but we get better…” is something we all need to remind ourselves. We will realise a lot about our strengths and our capabilities.
