Online MBA Career Spotlight: Marketing Manager

Ever since completing my engineering, I wanted to do my MBA. As I started working, I had no idea why I should do an MBA, but something in me told that I would like. In hindsight, I am sure now that there are better ways and reasons to do an MBA. Of course, after my engineering, I went on to work in a large MNC followed by the start up at RMW. It was only the last few years, I have realised the value of an extra education and how it can impact your approach towards business. Of late, I have become a fan of some online resources for study and career improvement.

In this context, something that is picking up  is the online MBA’s which are an interesting way to increase your opportunities. Of course it is never a replacement for a full time one, but it can give you a shot in the arm for what you would like to pursue. An article that caught my eye was this career spotlight article focused on marketing managers to learn more about the necessary skills to obtain the position of your dreams along with the responsibilities that come with marketing management careers. So, as we explore this position,

Marketing Manager Responsibilities

When working as a marketing manager, individuals are responsible for the planning, development, and execution of various types of marketing campaigns and ad strategies. Marketing campaign managers work to communicate effectively and efficiently to any target audience or demographic a company is interested in.

Marketing managers are required to set and monitor budgets while also distributing funds properly and for the most optimized results with each new campaign that is launched (regardless of its duration). Working as a marketing manager requires you to have an in-depth understanding of the latest wants, needs, and trends that are most associated with your consumers or any target demographic you want to reach with your campaign.

Communication Skills

Communication skills are some of the most important skills to have when working as a marketing manager. Having the innate ability to connect with and communicate with potential partners, advertisers, and even consumers you want to reach is a must to work as a successful marketing manager. Understanding how to negotiate is extremely beneficial when working as a marketing manager if you are interested in saving on your budget and maximizing your reach with each new campaign you have in mind.

Analytical Thinking Abilities

Thinking analytically is also necessary for successful marketing managers. Knowing how to collect, organize, and interpret data is essential when tracking campaigns and optimizing additional strategies for even more success in the future. While it is important to think creatively while developing new marketing campaigns, analytical thinking is also imperative to put all data and information you are capable of collecting to use.

Finances and Budgeting

Managing marketing campaigns requires a basic understanding of finances and budgeting, especially if you are determining where ads are placed and how much you pay for each advertisement you promote. With a keen understanding of budgeting and managing marketing finances, impress potential employers and run successful campaigns without overspending or wasting company funds.

Current With Latest Trends and Surrounding Industry Culture

Remaining updated with the latest trends in your surrounding industry is a way for you to outperform competition while also solidifying your professional place in the marketing field. The more familiar you are with the latest and most popular trends that are relevant to the brand you represent, the easier it becomes to communicate and resonate with followers and potential customers. Marketing managers take pride in following the latest trends in pop culture, work culture, and shopping trends to ensure any campaign they launch has the best chance of success.

Becoming familiar with the responsibilities and skills required of marketing managers is a way for you to better prepare for the job with the right education and learning throughout your journey to work as a professional in the market. Whether you have always wanted to work in marketing or if you want to put your management skills to use for a higher salary and additional benefits, a marketing manager just may be the best career option for you.
