Be happy in the moment that’s enough – Mother Teresa

Be happy in the moment that’s enough: Another beautiful quote by Mother Teresa about living in the moment. Perhaps this is most relevant for a fast-paced world with multiple distractions. I can start this with the dopamine addiction social media has created or the attention deficiency due to short videos. I don’t know what exactly to blame, but there’s a cultural transition taking us away from living in the moment.

Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more

It is hard to stay still and embrace the silence and boredom in life. I recall a talk by Simon Sinek which talks about the power of boredom. That aside, let’s focus on the meaning of this quote about living in the moment.

Be happy in the moment that’s enough

This is indeed a hard task – when people ask us to be happy in the moment, I feel that this is an oversimplified statement. How can you expect to be happy in the moment when so many things happening in the world. Some of these are personal. However so many of them are beyond our control. The news talks about horrific wars or mistreatment of humans across the world. In such a scenario and even with worries happening in our life, it is hard to be happy in the moment.

With that being said, I still think that this is a powerful statement to reflect on. It is a challenging achievement to live in the moment and not let the fears of the future or guilt of the past bother us. Our minds are not trained to remain still and embrace the moment as it is. It naturally wanders off – either imagining things or creating new possibilities. Although these are great – the quote talks about living in the moment. The book – Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle talks about this beautifully. It is a skill to live in this moment and take in more moments during the day. This helps us reflect on the various treasures we meet daily. It also helps us identify how rich our life can be.

On the other hand, if things are not going well – we can also take solace in the reality that this is just this moment. It doesn’t reflect what the future or past are like. If we treat this as the merit of this moment, we know that it will past. We can either decide to embrace this moment or treat it as a temporary occurrence. As long as we are completely present in the moment, this is what our life is about – these small moments which define the bigger picture.
