Attitude of Gratitude, Thank You – Brian Tracy

An attitude of gratitude – that has a very nice ring to it. Brian Tracy says:

“Develop An ‘Attitude Of Gratitude’. Say Thank You To Everyone You Meet For Everything They Do For You.”

As always, we love to tear apart a quote and try to understand how it impacts us. Today’s selection is the inspirational words from Brian Tracy about the attitude of gratitude and the power of Thank you.

Thank You!

It does sound like a prayer when I think about this. We are not thoroughly spiritual people to talk about prayers and how they impact us. To be honest with you, I don’t quite understand the science of it. I would be very grateful if one of our readers would like to explain this below.

But I do believe in the impact of words and how they can influence us. The first time I came across this was when I was reading Anthony Robbins’ “Awaken the giant within”. I was going through a tough time when I read this and was wondering – Why should I be thankful? Life is a fair mess at this point, I don’t have a single thing to be thankful for.

Attitude of Gratitude

As you know, our entire thinking process is an attitude. A problem manifests itself in different ways depending on the angle we look at it in. I am not going to debate on an old cliched quote – if you look for opportunities or challenges, you will find them.

But, it is indeed true. The more I thought about my problems, the worse I felt about my everyday life. I could feel myself sinking through this process and sunk deeper and deeper. But the book did have an amazing impact on me. It was about being thankful for every little incident in a day which made me smile.

You see what you notice

Ever noticed when you bought a new car/bike you can see more of those on the streets? It is almost as if awakening a cognitive part of your mind which asks you to start noticing something similar.

The same was true for the Thank you and gratitude. I was thankful for the horrible stuff that made me worry, and at the same time – the opportunities it presented. Nothing ever has a singular view, if we look hard and deep enough, the challenges slowly transform into something else.

We will not have all the answers when we start, but the answers have a beautiful way of showing up.

I don’t want to sound pedantic and preach magic or any insane philosophy here. But, the whole aspiration and focus changes when you start developing an attitude of gratitude.

The practical bit

It is difficult to start being thankful for the problems you have with life when you start with this. But, is it difficult to be thankful for the events in a day which make you happy?

What happens if you make a note of things that make you happy everyday and say thank you for those?

What if you summarise it for a week, then a month and then a year? If you look back – you will note that there is so much that has happened in your life.

It is a habit, a habit which is built slowly training your mind about what to focus on. In a very short span of time, the number of events you can be thankful for increase. It is nothing extraordinary. A very simple exercise, but these little things can change an awful lot and bring about a fresh perspective.

After all, are we not united by the singular goal of increasing the quality of life? For that, does an attitude of gratitude help you? Join our discussion with your thoughts below:
