Make each day your masterpiece – John Wooden

Make each day your masterpiece: I wish life was as simple as this sometimes. To wake up each day, think of it as the last day that we’ve got so that we can put our best foot forward. Maybe it is, perhaps it is only us who stand in the way and complicate things by thinking too much. I like the motivation and conviction behind this quote by John Wooden which urges us to bring our best each day.

Make each day your masterpiece – John Wooden

It is naturally difficult because there are so many things that happen in our day. Especially when we are down, it is harder to make each day our masterpiece. The counterpoint to this is – what better choice do we have? Anyone can be ordinary, bringing our best to the fore gives us the best chance for the best quality of life that we can create.

Make each day your masterpiece

This quote by John Wooden makes us think of a few factors:

  • Intentional action, Mindful Living
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Embracing challenges
  • Staying positive

Make each day your masterpiece quotes

Make each day your best – Perhaps this summarises the intent and meaning of this quote the best. We have only one shot per each day. If we think of life like this, it opens a question – if this is my best chance, what am I doing to make the most of it. If it enables us to bring out our best self forward, keep pushing ourselves to a higher standard – whether it is mastery, love, affection or spiritual growth, it creates a new momentum doesn’t it?

  2. “The future depends on what you do today.” — Mahatma Gandhi
  3. “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” — C.S. Lewis
  4. “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” — George Bernard Shaw
  5. “Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.” — Alice Morse Earle

Mindful living

We hear lots of people talking about mindfulness. This quote nudges us to think about making each day and moment mindful. There’s a special power in being aware of our thoughts, answering the question of why we think in a certain manner. We may not know all the answers, but there’s a powerful realisation in these questions which makes us think. These thoughts will find a way to transform into actions, but everything starts from a seed of thought. Continuous Improvement

Perhaps this is the best reflection of the central meaning of this quote in the context which John Wooden puts it in. Life is about this continuous quest of mastering something. This mastery doesn’t happen overnight with a few specific efforts. Life will demand us to experiment, try different things. In the process, we will fail a few times and that’s ok.

We can’t punish ourselves for failing. But it is our responsibility to make each day our best. If we try to bring our best each day in the spirit of this quote, we can urge the sense of self improvement from within. Mastery is about these small improvements and moving forward one small step at a time.

Embracing challenges

When someone says make each day your best, my immediate reaction would be to say – if only life was so easy. Maybe it is or maybe it is not. I don’t know the answer to this. I don’t think anyone can claim to know answers to the questions about complexity of life. However, we can try and simplify our life as much as possible. These efforts to simplify the complexity help us bring our best to life.

There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so – William Shakespeare

Staying positive – Make each day your best

Finally, I want to talk about the last theme from this quote – make each day your best. This is about staying positive amidst challenges. The main thing it makes me think about is the comparison of our life to the many people around us. It is natural for us to compare and feel bad about how difficult it is for us. It also stands in the way of us staying positive and getting the most out of life. Or in the essence of this quote – putting the most into life. But this is the task, right? If we want something out of an effort, we’ve got to put the best foot forward. Average effort can only give us average results.
