World entrepreneurs day 2023 – Celebrating Visionaries

History: World entrepreneurs day was first coined in 2009. It is a fairly new trend, but perhaps given how young and dynamic entrepreneurship has become in India – this is only fitting for a new history. If you recall, not too long ago, Jan 16 was coined as National Startup Day. The first official celebration of World Entrepreneurs Day was 21 Aug 2010. I wasn’t able to find a specific reason as to why this day is selected for the recognition.

Why world entrepreneurs day?: I think the primary reason to celebrate world entrepreneurs day 2023 is to acknowledge and recognise entrepreneurship across the world. In India, entrepreneurship is becoming more accepted, thanks to the effort from the governments and the recent successes of entrepreneurs of Indian origins worldwide. The economic benefits of entrepreneurship are plenty including job creation, wealth creation, etc. It also gives a unique ability to find and solve a problem. Isn’t it a fascinating thing to be able to find a solution to a challenge that arises from a single idea? I’d love to remind ourselves of Ambani’s quote – Think big, think fast

ideas are no one's monopoly, dhirubai ambani quote ideas, think big think fast, dhirubai ambani
Ideas are no one’s monopoly, Think Big, Think Fast and Think Ahead – Dhirubai Ambani

The best benefit I can see in World Entrepreneurs day 2023 is in the identification of the most innovative or budding entrepreneurial ventures. It can also be a great place to network between investors and founders if the entries are curated carefully.

I love the idea of celebrating new ideas and businesses. This is a list taken from a third party website and I’m afraid I’m not fully aware of the selection process. However, I find some of these businesses rather inspiring and touch upon different fields of business.

5 quotes on entrepreneurship for World entrepreneurs day 2023

This is also a day where you’ll find loads of recognitions and awards for budding entrepreneurs. If you’re a founder, I’d strongly recommend participating. Although, my word of caution would be to beware of companies asking you to pay for these awards. When I was running my startup, I used to come across this scam quite often. It used to say: We’ve selected you for an award, you just have to pay for the media and coverage costs.

If someone asks you to pay for an award, I’m sure you can recognise that it is a rather phoney way to make money. And please run away, the benefits are too small to even consider these well-dressed scams. With that word of worldly advice, presenting you with a few inspiring quotes on entrepreneurship.

  1. “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.” – Anonymous
  2. “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese Proverb
  3. “The value of an idea lies in the using of it.” – Thomas Edison
  4. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill
  5. “Entrepreneurship is about turning what excites you in life into capital, so that you can do more of it and move forward with it.” – Richard Branson
