Nowhere in your birth certificate did it say life would be fair: We were not promised a fair life. Life is just something that happens around us. The best thing we can do is to make the most of our opportunities. There shall be challenges, but we must remember that life doesn’t owe us anything. It battles the feeling of entitlement vs acceptance of what life throws at us. But we must remember always that Life isn’t always fair. There will be countless instances where we feel like things are skewed against us. Maybe we put in a lot of effort for something, only to have it all go to waste due to a simple mistake or someone else’s mistake.
Nowhere in your birth certificate did it say life would be fair Meaning
There is one thing that is always in our control – how we react to the situation. We can’t always control the circumstances, but we can control how we respond. As Maya Angelou says, if you don’t like something – change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you see it. This comes back to our attitude in facing challenges and life in general.
The meaning of nowhere on your birth certificate did it say life would be fair can be explained in the following points:
- Life doesn’t come with a promise of fairness – in fact it is more unfair than fair!
- We will not be given equal treatment or opportunities
- Life is unpredictable and not equal to everyone
- The best thing we can do is use our opportunities to make the best of our challenges
- We ought to accept this unfairness and move forward rather than feeling sorry for ourselves
We might not be judged by the circumstances that led to a certain result, but we will certainly be judged by the results and outcomes themselves. It’s up to us to find ways to make things happen, no matter how challenging the obstacles might be. If we stay committed to our goals and keep pushing forward, we can make a statement about who we are and what we stand for.
Why life is not fair?
Life doesn’t start the same way for everyone. We’re all born with a few opportunities and limitations. These, largely define our goals, passions and even interests. Ultimately, these influences help us develop an expertise and become something. Where we start from, also defines the introduction we have into the world.
I agree that our talent plays a huge role and so does hard work. But life is not fair because we don’t always start at the same place. Perhaps, the best thing you or I can do is find our strengths and play to them. We must understand what our capabilities are and how best we can succeed with them. This is not an opportunity to feel bad, but to create situations to succeed.
Expecting life to be fair will only lead us to disappointment. Instead, we must focus on our goals, strengths and finding the best way to get there.

true…and the grass is always greener on the other side :) some people always think they have all the problems in the world and the entire world is better of than them. some of the stories and news i have read online just proves otherwise. some are just pure horror. if we do compare our lives with such people, our problems will pale in comparison. everyone has problems…and problems are unfair. I guess life is about accepting reality and moving on. well written :)
Oh yes indeed.. Someone had nicely paraphrased it – The grass is always greener on the other side and so is the electricity bill :D ..
Like you said, it is all about accepting reality the way it is and moving on with a brave smile, and an untired spirit which keeps us alive all through :)
