To be a great champion you must believe, Meaning – Muhammad Ali

To be a great champion you must believe: This is a slightly contentious quote by Muhammad Ali. The most compelling comment I read said – he’s basically asking people to be pretentious. It is a fair leap, but I think there’s more to the quote as we will explore in this debate. This quote is about building your self-confidence, trust and belief in your dreams. Ultimately, the purpose is to build yourself to achieve your dreams. It starts with a belief and it later transforms into corresponding actions and results.

Some of the key topics that we will cover in this debate are:

  • Self-belief and confidence
  • Hard work to support your beliefs
  • Fake it till you make it approach and its fallacies

Self-Belief and Self-Confidence

Your dreams and aspirations start with self-belief. If you don’t think something is achievable, the dream will weaken with time. The best way to strengthen a dream is through your belief and trust. If you desire something deeply, you must trust that you can make it work. If a dream is that important to you, building self-confidence is equally important. None of us is born with it – but our experiences, hard work and previous successes pave a path for self-confidence. I’ll recommend listening to this beautiful Ted talk about training self-confidence.

Training the skill of self-confidence

Belief alone won’t take you long

Confidence without hard work is useless. If you want tangible results, you must make sure that you put in the hard work. To be a great champion you must believe – this is right. But belief helps you build your dream. If you don’t do anything about your dream, it simply is a wasted effort. Your dreams have a beautiful power – don’t waste it. As Abdul Kalam says – dreams are not the ones that come to you in sleep, but the ones that don’t allow you to sleep.

If your dreams don’t result in the deliberate effort, then you’re better off giving up the dream!

To be a great champion you must believe meaning

Believe you are the best, be a great champion, champion quote muhammad ali, to be a great champion you must believe
Muhammad Ali: To be a great champion, pretend to be one

This is the last point I want to make – to be a great champion you must believe you are the best. You might have heard of this phrase – fake it till you make it. I hate that term! But, there’s a value to it. If you believe in something completely, it opens up your conviction and creates a behavioural pattern around it. The limitation however is that it doesn’t make you capable.

Hence you must use it carefully. I agree – to be a great champion you must believe you are the best. I will adjust that slightly and say – you must believe that you will become the best. Build your self-confidence and conviction to achieve what you feel strongly for. But be careful not to fall into the delusion that you can achieve something without the necessary work!

To be a great champion you must believe you are the best. If you’re not, pretend you are. – .
