This is as good as a quote on chasing your dreams gets! The timing is never going to be perfect for our dreams are not going to wait for us. If we are not going to do it, someone else is going to and all we have at the end is a statement which says – “That could have been me”.

We all are masters at rationalisation, the moment we are presented with a challenge, our mind is trained to look at the pros and cons, evaluate the options and choose the one with minimal damage, even if the returns are not the best. The same thing is with the society as well, the moment you talk about this dream to your conservative confidant, the first thing you are going to hear is the list of risks and why you should not do it. And eventually you end up convincing yourself that the timing is not right and you might work on it on that bright sunny day when everything is hunky dory, where you are in a position that these risks are not going to affect you that badly.

That day will never come!

And guess what?! That day is never going to come. In fact, the challenges in our lives are bound to increase. It is simple common sense isn’t it? We all grow with time, our abilities grow and naturally so do our responsibilities and commitments. Our requirements are going to increase and so is the number of reasons to convince us to follow the dream we once aspired for.

We are not debating that any of these is wrong, the only question is – Is it the thing you truly wanted? Everything in this world can wait except for time. Like Chris Voss says, there is never going to be a perfect timing to follow the dreams. The dreams come as opportunities for the ones who are willing to make that leap of faith and prove to themselves and the dream itself as to how much it means to them. It comes to those who are willing to give everything they got in order to make it happen since they feel so strongly about it.

So What?

Truth is, it is very easy to come up with a set of reasons as to why it is not the right time to do it. Trust me, I have done it a hundred times and each time I think of those reasons, I realise that each one of them were very well justified and each one of them made perfect sense.

But in the end, none of the reasons actually mattered because I was left with this one question – “So What?”

So what if we have all these reasons, the question eventually boils down to – We had this dream which we felt so strongly about, What did we do about it?

And the answer too is a very personal thing, we don’t have to justify it to anyone else, we have just us to convince and we can come up with plenty rationalisations, but is it going to matter?

Indeed Maniparna, I like this one too. It is so simple and yet very practical, time is the one resource which will always be scarce, so better to make the most of it when we can.
