Thinking is the hardest work there is – Henry Ford

Thinking is the hardest work there is – A fabulous burst of inspiration from Henry Ford. This quote challenges thoughts about ignorance, attacking people who have different views from you. Thinking is pretty hard work – it means that you’ve to keep your ego aside and welcome various possibilities. It also means that you might have to admit that you’re wrong.

But that’s why thinking is never easy as highlighted in this powerful quote by Henry Ford.

Thinking is the hardest work there is

What is the meaning of – Thinking is the hardest work there is? I’m not insinuating manual labour is easy, but thinking for me is about personality and character. We all keep thinking continually. Of these thoughts, some are very helpful for our growth whereas some others are not. Some of these thoughts even hurt us and make us weak.

The brilliance is in selecting our thoughts and carefully channelling them to bring the best out of ourselves. Thinking is hard work – no doubt there. But we can get better by training our minds to take some time and welcome various possibilities. We might not always get the best results, but accepting a differing line of thought is a very powerful thought. It opens your mind to possibilities. These possibilities create various realities and perhaps even new ideas which you hadn’t thought about earlier.

Thinking about meaning, values and personality

We all create a version of life-based on our values. These values are highly influenced by our thoughts. Although most actions and decisions appear to be straightforward, they’re all based on how we’ve trained our personalities.

In the process of growing up, we’ve also picked up traits and characteristics that don’t help us. This quote – thinking is the hardest work there is – is an active call to reflect on these thoughts. It is about actively asking why

  • Why do we do certain things
  • How is our thought process shaped
  • What can I do to change it?

These are all simple questions, but their impact can be immensely powerful if we choose them to be. We can give up and say that thinking is hard. Or, we can train ourselves to think better to accomplish everything we really can. And this includes opening up our minds and hearts to various opportunities and possibilities.

Ya thinking is a a difficult job and putting thoughts into action is even difficult. Most of us ‘think’ that we spend most of our time ‘thinking’ – it is wrong, most of the time we waste our time ‘Imagining’. :-)

Thank you Vinay. I like the play on words – ‘think’! The line between imagination and thinking is quite thick and surprisingly enough, it is hard to actually make it out at ease.
