The theory of everything

Well! Have you watched the movie yet? If the answer is no,

Please…. Book a ticket rightaway!

If you are in a the mood for the slightest bit of motivation or even if you are not, this is a movie you shouldn’t be missing on. I am not talking this as a movie buff, although I would not be wrong if I say it as a movie buff either. Rated 7.8 on IMDB and 79% on rottentomatoes, this movie lives up to more than it promises.

The story of perhaps one of the most brilliant scientists of this century – Stephen Hawking! What better name for a movie – The Theory of Everything!

And the movie really has got everything, it has got determination, gut, inspiration, love, tolerance, sympathy, empathy, dedication and what not. Coin out any book from the dictionary of success and you will find an instance here. The acting, direction is top class and the movie will sweep you away.

Well I shall stop hailing this movie before it becomes a bit too much and I end up overselling it. But it sure is a damn great movie, made for the intelligent spectator.

 What the Movie has?

The movie clearly takes you through the journey of life of Stephen Hawking – How his quest for a unified theory of everything has sustained the tides of time, the challenges he has had and the experiences he endured to get there to be among the top scientists in the world. The movie takes you through his life – right from the time he was diagnosed of a multiple nerve disorder and the doctor says

“You have only 2 years to live”

And don’t worry, it is not a traumatic experience for the viewer, the movie is not made to gain any sympathy anywhere, if anything it makes you admire the man even more.

The essence of love.

I love the display of character both by Jane Hawking and Stephen Hawking. Although sometimes, I am at crossroads to understand whose character I should admire the most, the sacrifices made by Jane or the sacrifices of Hawking.

The resurgence

There is a constant question in my mind as I watch this movie – what kept him going?

Was it the passion of science?

Was it the love of Jane which keeps him strong?

Was it his sheer internal strength to face the odds?

Perhaps I will never know but from the perspective of motivation, I would certainly say that all the three play a very significant role.

The Humanity

All through the movie, I can identify the facets of humanity displayed by each of the characters.

The humility of his teacher who admires and points Stephen in the right direction.

The undying love and empathy of Jane Hawking

The appreciation of his friends

Of course the mockery by fellow men, maybe not on his appearance but on his theories.

The Philosophy.

What keeps a man going? When someone tells you that you have two years to live, what do you think of doing?

How do you think you would react?

What would be the philosophy of life that governs you?

And when someone asks Stephen this question, his answer was –

theory of everything quote, stephen hawing quote, there should be no boundaries stephen hawking quote, theory of everything

There should be no boundaries to human endeavor. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there’s life, there is hope.

This coming from a man who has really seen the lows and the highs.

Till now, I really had an amount of respect for this man, but after this movie, it has been of total veneration. I can’t wait to get my hands on his book – A brief history of time. I am not sure how much of it I will be able to understand, but I would certainly love to have it in my library.

Hope you enjoy this movie. We strongly recommend you do :)
