In this discussion, we talk about Kalpana Chawla’s quote “The path from dreams to success does exist. May you have the vision to find it, the courage to get on to it, and the perseverance to follow it”. The discussion is targeted towards how best to use this quote to drive your personal goals.
Who said the path from dreams to success does exist?
Kalpana Chawla – a splendour of inspiration and motivation to many. Kalpana Chawla is the first female from India who made it into space. She is also the recipient of the congressional medal of honour. Her words – you are just your intelligence reverberate as I read about her further on the wiki page. Words are too short to do justice to her achievements but I’d love to talk about this quote from her:
The path from dreams to success does exist. May you have the vision to find it, the courage to get on to it, and the perseverance to follow it
Kalpana Chawla
This quote talks about passion, the desire to succeed and the tenacity to follow our passion.

As a part of this quote, I’d also like to reflect on – path to success quotes below:

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step – Lao Tzu
Even the greatest was once a beginner – Muhammad Ali
Ambition is the path to success, persistence is the vehicle to arrive – Bill Bradley
You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great – Zig Ziglar
The Path From Dreams to Success Does Exist Meaning
Dreams, no matter how big or small have a reason. They are constantly present in your mind to keep you awake at night. They need no introduction but certainly, need closure. In this situation, closure is your achievement.
Your dream is your own. It is special and has a beautiful story and motivation to it. Hold on to the reasons why you want to achieve this dream. Write down your WHY and the HOWs will appear. These dreams develop a meaning when you start defining how to achieve them.
On that note, we split the quote into three sections in our discussion
Vision in achieving your dreams
The path from dreams to success starts with a vision. This is your first step in the direction of proud achievement. A vision statement can just be one line, but it must be strengthened constantly.
- How does this vision look? : Write down every single detail of this vision. Its appearance, feel, the scent should be visible to you.
- Live your vision each day: Each day, close your eyes and imagine how it would be to achieve this vision. What does it feel like when you achieve your goal?
Visualise it, what are yourbehaviours , movements, tones when you imagine completion of this dream? - Does it empower you? : Do you feel the growth of this strength within you as you imagine this vision? Live in this moment for 30 seconds. How does it feel?
Once you complete the above exercise, the next step is to chalk out a plan. Remember, the key to this vision is to note down every single detail. You must be able to tell every detail as to what this achievement looks like. Most importantly, you must be able to define the impact it can make on you. That’s the starting point of your dream.
Reaching your dreams: Courage
It may sound very simple and easy. Every dream/vision needs courage. The path from dreams to success is never easy. It has its challenges. Your courage takes you a long way.
- Fears: Once you define your vision, there will be doubts – both internal and external. This is your mind’s way of preparing you for reality. You may accept it and leave your vision. Or you can find ways to achieve this vision. Start your plan, fear is a motivator, not a distraction.
- You will not have all the answers right away: Some answers take time to mature. You must build patience and strength to create this. Be ok with a little bit of uncertainty, but don’t ignore it. Every emotion you have is a message. Listen to what your emotions are telling you. Be open and courageous to know what the meaning of this message.
- Face them: Face your fears, doubts, and limitations head-on. There is no point in avoiding an eventuality. You are better off getting it over with. You cannot live your life in denial. Face your internal demons and doubts. Find a way to go past them.
Courage may just be a word, but it is more about actions. You cannot let the fears or doubts distract you. At the same time, don’t ignore them. Listen to your mental feedback and use it to carve the best route for you.
Path from Dreams to Success: Perseverance
Perseverance doesn’t necessarily mean trying the same thing over and over again. It means being smart and finding new ways to achieve your final goal. The path from dreams to success is defined by your approach to perseverance.
- You cannot be blind: At each stage of your goal, be watchful. Take feedback from your results and build on them. Don’t turn a blind eye to the outcomes from your approach. Maybe there is a significant clue about how to get around your problems in these results. Embrace them and welcome your results.
- You cannot always win: Failure is a part and parcel of everything you do. Celebrate your successes, but failures are important too. Don’t ever ask -“Why is this happening to me”. Ask “What can I do about this?”. Remember, your goal is to keep moving forward.
- Stay away from Insanity: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. Don’t fall into this trap. Your approach must be simplified – What do I do to achieve my goal? That’s your ultimate question. Everything else is a part of the puzzle and you just need to find a fix.
With this in mind, it draws our monologue to an end. It is time to hear your views on the dreams and passions that drive you. Join our discussion about your dream – what is your dream and why do you want to achieve it?
The path from dreams to success does exist. May you have the vision to find it, the courage to get on to it, and the perseverance to follow it

I must say, it was a delighted read. I followed everything step by step as mentioned and I could see my self relating to the explanation so well. The best part for me was definitely the “Courage” one. We all dream – some dreams are big and some small but our chances of achieving them is also decided by how well we take care of the fears that constantly act as constrains. It’s important to deal with them at the right time.
Thank you for a wonderful discussion.
Hi Gurpreet, I’m very pleased to hear that. I’m always fascinated by these quotes, there is so much of knowledge and dimension in them. The way these words either pack wisdom or a driving force is constantly astounding to me.
Very nice to hear your comment, this quote is a bit special for me because it brings about a scientific aspect of approach and diligence, slightly different from the ones motivated by humanities and social studies. The battle of doubts and fears are a constant as I think, but I’ve also at times realised – whether I’m afraid or not , it doesn’t matter, the job still needs to be done because it is a part of my bigger plan and there’s no way I can dodge it if I were to achieve the overall goal.
It just makes things so much more different and palatable..
Many successful people imagine / dream of things. They see a path to reach the goal. I think that is conviction. Then they reach their goal. Without a dream or vivid imagination, such a success may not materialise.
Interesting thought. I am a huge fan of creating visions, adding more details to a dream. It is really intriguing that you bring up conviction. I was recently reading about how beliefs become convictions, their impact and how one can start manipulating those to achieve what they want.
It is fascinating to be able to take charge of your vision to build up the dreams and then start finding ways to achieve it. The more I delve into these details, I find myself intrigued by the possibilities and influences that can be created to get to our goals. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Abhijit, it sparks a very interesting trail of thoughts
