Satyameva Jayate: Mental Illness and Depression

“A healthy mind is an easy breathe.”

Today’s show about Satyameva Jayate focused on A Healthy Mind. Here is a feed from the show and a little more information for a better living.

What is mental illness?

It is the behavioural pattern that causes suffering to lead an ordinary life.

How is it caused?

Mental illness is caused by phobias, anxiety disorder, panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and great depression.

What about Suicide?

Intentionally causing one’s own death because of despair.

The average age of suicide deaths is greatest between 15 and 29 years old. Every year 800,000 people commit suicide and more than 130,000 people in India do that.

You would be surprised to know the fact that 80% of suicide victims are literates.

What about cure?

1 in 5 people suffer from mental illness. That means, it could be someone from your family, it could be me or it could be you or that cool person who looks as if he never deal with difficult days in his life.

If someone asked you for a solution then we straight up say, “Go visit a doctor.” But do we actually do it when the same happens to us. We wouldn’t! You see, we are so used to compromise troubles in our lives that we tend to compromise even the troubled mind. “To go see a doctor” would be much more of a social issue than personal.

The most essential medicine for cure is love. I know, I seem totally filmy when I say this. But love compromises care, concern, support and more than anything a healing heart to cure a suffering heart. Is it the elixir of life?

Family and friends play an important role to nourish the mentally stressed. Something that is very common is the suicide among teens. It is very necessary for the family to bring in an atmosphere in the family to embody that friendly factor so that people don’t have to keep emotionally troubling things within themselves. “Listen to every little thing your child says, it may not mean anything to you but it means everything to them.”

Medication is equally important. Antidepressants can help in a great way. Sometimes, it is easy to speak your heart out to a stranger than to a loved one. When a doctor can help you treat physical pain then he surely can help you heal mental pain.

A healthy lifestyle can be a great help to prevent depressions in life. When you keep yourself fit with a sound full sleep of 6-8 hrs with at least 30 minutes of exercise. Keep yourself engaged with something or the other which makes you happy and not to be mentioned, a good talk and laugh with friends and family.

What about laughter yoga? Is it any way useful?

Voluntary laughter which actually turns your fake laughter into a real one. Laughter Yoga brings more oxygen to the body and brain and provides positive energy and improves cardiovascular health and mood.

Before I end this I have to write down a beautiful quote from a beautiful book that I recently read.

“When life robs you. Sometimes, you have to rob it back.”
