Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want: I just feel like reviving the thought of the day section with a lovely quote from Eliza Fitzerland. It resonates with the thoughts I’ve been having over the past few days and wondered if I should give my blogging a rest. At the same time, there’s a nagging feeling which is brought into perspective with this lovely thought for the day:
I’d like to ask three questions today to understand this quote further
- What do you do when you feel like giving up?
- How do you decide whether to give up something or continue?
- What makes you persevere even when you think things are not working for you?
How do you decide to give up something?
I don’t know about you – but I find it very hard to give up something. It is almost an insurmountable task to think of stopping something which has defined my values for a long time. What are your emotional triggers to give up something? My common reasons are:
- Pain – If something continues to hurt me
- Lack of Motivation – when I can’t find an answer for why I’m continuing to do something. This happened during my IAS exam days and I lost the drive before I quit. I have chagrined myself for not going through with it and had some horrible memories of the same. But I do know that it was a right decision to take
Again, when someone says – Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want – I want to ask the second question first. Do I really want this? If I don’t find sufficient reasons to continue, then perhaps it is time to quit
But Perseverance says Never Quit
This is where I find the most difficulty! I’ve been influenced by quotes of perseverance which ask me never to quit. Most of them have forced me to think of giving up as weakness and hence I’ve pushed along. Sometimes even to my own detriment.
I guess someone forgot to tell us that all quotes come with a caveat – to understand and place our mental, emotional health first. There is no point in persevering if you’re losing a part of yourself in the process. No goal can be bigger than who you are. I’ve done this mistake once and learned the hard way of finding back who I am.
It is easy to say that one should never quit, but listen to yourself please. If your heart is not in a process anymore – then perhaps it is time to think what your heart truly desires. Don’t let anything force you into believing something else. Your gut and heart are the purest sources of truth.

I don’t want to sound negative but I’d want to reiterate thoughts on this lovely quote – Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want. It is hard to keep pushing our boundaries and persevering amidst challenges.
But each time, we need to find our source of strength. This lies in understanding the WHY! If you know why you are doing something and the cause is strengthened constantly – then you have the answer for your source of motivation. If not, please don’t burden yourself with these thoughts of perseverance. They can drive you mad sometimes, when your heart is not in it.
Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong
