Largest Volunteer Army in The World

Have you come across ‘Le Chalo Khushiyan’ NDTV’s campaign with Cadbury Celebrations to send Diwali wishes to Indian Army? If you wish to write down to them, then here you go with the links  Twitter , Facebook

I write this article with utmost respect to the real heroes who have been working for our peaceful life.

Indian army is one of the largest army in the world. Even before India’s Independence, contribution to the world peace has been a superior agenda of Indian army. They were successful contributors during the 2 World Wars and even today they remain one of the most successful contributors to world peace.

Mission

To ensure national security and unity.

Contribution

They have been defending the nation from external threats and have been the peace maintainers. They have always been helpful and trustworthy when tension boils between India and Pakistan. Talk either about the Bangladesh Liberation War or the Kargil or India-China conflict, there contribution to the nation is immense.

Keeping their services not just to the border conflicts they have been great contributors to United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, which server at the war conflict areas to maintain peace.  Recently Shakti Devi of India received International Peacekeeper Award 2014.

Humanitarian Operations

Indian army has conducted humanitarian rescue operations during natural calamities and other disturbances in the country.

Operation Megh Rahat (for saving people trapped in the 2014 Kashmir floods), Operation Surya Hope  (for saving people trapped in the 2013 North India floods), Operation Goodwill (humanitarian tasks in J&K), Operation Black Tornado, and Operation Cyclone, Operation Vijay, Operation Brasstacks, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Cactus and many more made a huge success.

Number of Defenders

Did you know Indian Army is the world’s largest standing volunteer army with more than 1,325,000 active troops and more than 960,000 reserve troops.

More than 40,000 of them regularly report for duty and that’s how  it becomes the largest volunteer army in the world.

Conditions of Our Defenders

.Nothing more than risking one’s life for the sake of others and a soldier does that gracefully. They battle in sub-zero temperatures that can go down to minus 20c. They face many hardships like low payment, poor food, and low marriage prospects. It’s not as easy as it sounds to get a job after demobilization. Thankfully, the government has come up with better packages and facilities these days but life at the border needs a lot more than what the government is offering at present.

“Life may seem unpredictable for us but living itself is unpredictable for them.”

We salute to such amazing men in the country and no matter what we do; it will always be small compared to the sacrifice these people are making for us. We whole heartedly respect them and thank them for giving us a secure life.
