Be the miracle: It is so easy to be caught up in the glamour of high-impact outcomes that we forget that the simplest of tasks might have the most valuable outcomes. This dialogue from Bruce Almighty amazes me. Achievement, greatness etc need not be a huge thing – it can be in small simple things that can move the world – just one step at a time. In some cases, we may downgrade a few tasks thinking that they’re not important enough. But each of our challenges and struggles is beautiful and they define who we are today. In comparison to someone else, they may mean nothing – but for your own story and narrative, they might be magical.

Parting your soup is not a miracle, Bruce. It’s a magic trick. A single mom who’s working two jobs and still finds time to take her kid to soccer practice, that’s a miracle. A teenager who says “no” to drugs and “yes” to an education, that’s a miracle. People want me to do everything for them. But what they don’t realize is *they* have the power. You want to see a miracle, son? Be the miracle.

What does this dialogue make you feel? If it makes you think and reflect for a minute, then I’d consider the purpose of this blog post achieved. Ultimately it is in these thoughts that we make a change right? As Abdul Kalam states, dreams transform into thoughts and then result in a change. Perhaps that’s what it is all about – the powerful presence of your thoughts.

It’s a beautiful scene where Bruce comes to seek god’s help through his troubles and the dialogue resonates at so many levels. For me, it would bring in a lot of thoughts

Meaning of parting your soup is not a miracle

The points that make the most difference to me in be the miracle quote are:

1. It is always up to us: The responsibility for change or addressing our challenges is ours. Our life might not be going the way we want. But it is up to us to change and make things happen. Life is unfair and the world will be unfair. But we can’t waste our time complaining about it because it will not help us achieve anything in the end.
2. A miracle doesn’t need to be huge. We often wait to celebrate a big achievement but don’t pause to celebrate the person we’re becoming. Can we just pause a bit and keep track of where we are headed? It won’t be perfect, but it will progress.
3. We have what we need to solve our problems. Sometimes it might mean that we have to be creative to find a solution. It won’t be easy, but running away from our problems rarely solves anything right? We have to find a way to solve it to move on with our life.
4. Tomorrow is a long way away – we have to do something now. If you ever feel like doing something, it is a strong call from your motivation. If you don’t answer it right away, it is a wasted opportunity. Even if you can’t do everything, you can always do something small – to set things in motion and to be the miracle.
