Define creativity!
As per the theoretical definition, creativity is the use of imagination or original ideas to create something. In other words, defined locally and colloquially, it is just a way of finding solutions to the simple challenges and in this case find a local solution to the existing challenge with the resources at hand. From a long time, we have been wanting to do the photo posts on the small, exciting and a little funny things that make us tick and we are kinda proud to be starting with this bit of creativity.
These guys wanted to play Gully Cricket on the roads – well not that we recommend it but cricket sure is a lot of fun in all formats. And I was curious to see how they would stand the wickets on a tar road. They certainly could not plant it in, not without destroying the public property – in this case, the road :). As I was standing there, these guys were pretty smart, they brought these 3 sticks and leaned it against a cycle. That was pretty innovative to me. I mean as kids, we have played cricket by drawing three lines on a wall which represented the wickets, we have even had stones and joined them together to make a wicket. But this was pretty new and pretty innovative the way these guys managed to make a game out of it.
Kudos to the young talent. Who knows, there might be a young Dhoni or Virat Kohli in the making here :).
This was our photo pick of the day, a tiny dose of inspiration. If you find any such pictures which you would like to share here, please do send them across to [email protected]. Cos as we know it, inspiration is everywhere and what better place than something that is happening right next to us :)

I don’t think that was creative, the ball can hit the cycle, the cycle may fall and break, I have a nice ex of creativity will tell that soon…will post pictures in the email(: goodday
Well I think it was pretty smart of then Maria, atleast making most of the situation anyway. And when it comes to playing cricket, not many seem to care about the cycle falling down. Plus it prevents having a wicketkeeper sometimes ;)
For cricket , i suppose this kind of creativity is very common. I have seen at least 50 variations of gully wickets since childhood.
He he indeed Sadhvi, I kinda like stopping and watching a game each time some kids are playing out there. It takes a trip down the memory lane :)

This is really innovative. A perfect example of when there’s a will (wheel in this case), there’s a way…. :-D
Ha ha thats a good play on words Maniparna :) . Where there is wheel, there is a way. No wonder the wheel was the pioneer of all developments in the world :)
Hey, that’s like making most of the situation. As they say make hay while the sun shines, Similarly rest the wickets till the cycle is parked. Pretty smart. :-)
Ha ha.. Indeed indeed, making the most of the situation and in the lines of inspiration, creativity sure is everywhere around us, we just miss out on it sometimes :)
They say, “Every drop is vital and every little thing counts to make for something big” This tiny source of inspiration is definitely creativity at its peak :) Thanks for sharing Vinay!
Thank you Maitreni. The very sight of this brought out a smile on my face and I couldn’t help taking a picture and sharing it here. It had been a long time thought of ours to introduce the photo inspiration section. And this one is really a great start looking at the way it is bringing out these smiles :)
Wonderful narrative Vinay. When we do things that we like the most, innovation flows. This is one such example for that.
Thank you Gowtham, I simply kept feeling so proud of this and kept feeling how smart these kids are and there are so many such interesting local solutions if we simply look around. Hoping to post more such interesting pictures soon :)
Amazing post. You’ll find this creativity in every single Indian kid. Me and my friends used to stick those wicket-sticks using bricks and we had to move them every time a car entered in our “GULLI” to make way for it. This post reminded me of the memories, when I was 10. Thanks Vinay! :)
He he thank you Sahaj. Honestly that was the first thing that came to my mind as soon as I saw these kids playing. It took me about 20 years back where we used to find a reason to get out of the house. Sometimes I wonder if kids these days do the same or whether they are sucked into the technology buzz and TV which has kinda pushed these games to the sidelines. And then I see this which makes me believe that, there is hope after all :)
There is indeed. :)
