Michael Phelps : 6 Months Suspension

Michael Phelps : 6 Months Suspension From Swimming

Michael Phelps, Michael Phelps suspension, swimming, Michael Phelps caseMichael Fred Phelps is an American swimmer and the one who has won the most Olympic medals as an individual with a total of 22 medals(18 gold+2 silver+2 bronze) Michael Phelps also holds the all time record for Olympic gold medals of 18. I have just mentioned the Olympic till now. He has won 33 World Championships, 21 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. He is just 29 years old and has so many medals in his closet. A champion isn’t he?

The swimmer is in news from quite some time as he is charged for DUI(Driving under the influence of alcoholic drink or a drug) Phelps was found driving nearly double the speed and was analyzed with high blood-alcohol level while driving. This is the second time he has been charged with the same reason. He is asked to withdraw from next year’s world championships and banned from USA Swimming till March, 2015 and he missed an opportunity to bag another medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Such a disappointing news for the one who made a comeback this year after his retirement in 2012.

He has apolozised for his actions and his tweets about the incident pleasantly surprised me.

It is really nice to see a sportsman taking responsibility for his actions and putting his life on priority. I think most times we are so caught up in the glory that it takes an external incident to realize that our lives are more important than our achievements. What we do is a very small part of our being and our quality of life. It is nice to finally see a sportsman step up to this and treat life better and reorganize priorities. After all, at the end of the day, no one really cares about the number of medals you win. Isn’t it all about being happy and achievement or a professional growth being just a part of it and not the whole life?!

  1. He is a living legend and I’m a great fan…I’m feeling sorry for him on one hand and feeling happy that their government is not biased and everyone is literally same in the eyes of the law, on the other.

That’s true Maniparna. I respect the decision of government and as well as his.

Michael Phelps is not a swimmer, he is a swimming legend. Yet, before American Law and Order machinery, he is no different from ordinary joe.
