Alright! It cannot be done… So..?

People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it!

– Bernard Shaw

Well perhaps true, many things in this world cannot be done. Flying for instance, talking to people who are spaced thousands of kilometers apart, making a search engine which can spat out any result you want, building a robot which can take care of you and your hard labour, becoming smart, leading a life of your choice, being happy! Given a choice, there are hundreds of people out there who would love to interrupt and say that you cannot do something. I still wonder as to what joy they derive out of trying to get people off track. Is it with the sense of satisfaction to prove that they are right? Is it that they are trying to protect us from some horrible disappointments? Is it cos they are responding to their past and not ours? Well, no matter what reasons are, they very successfully manage to interrupt us when we are doing something.

Personally I have been blessed with a few opportunities where people have come straight up to me and told me that what I was doing was stupid, and I did hate them too. I thought – Here I am, trying to do something different in life and am in dire need of great support from the people who care for me and who love me. This is one time where I feel that I need support cos the entire world around me doesn’t seem to understand that! To top it all, there are people who try to distract you by telling you and giving you a set of solid reasons as to why it will not work. Forget helping us stand for ourselves, I have often felt the sheer pressure of them trying to pull me down.

But that again was interesting cos it does give the strength at some point in life where you can get up and say “Screw you” – I don’t need your support to be someone in life, I have enough strength in myself to get up when I am down and I have enough strength to stand up for myself. It was wrong of me to expect that someone else would come and do it for me. I was too dependent and I was too weak to understand the reality. I was trying to cling on to someone or some situation where I could feel a little better about myself. Maybe these people were needed to tell me that what I was doing was wrong, and it was more wrong to depend on things outside my domain to take a decision about my life.

I have been a fan of this one quote which says – Every Adversity in life comes with a great lesson. Perhaps the lesson in this front was to identify and understand that no matter what you want to do, there will be people who will try and interrupt you. There will be very few people who would appreciate you and encourage you. But there will be a lot who will ask those uncomfortable questions, some of which you would not have an easy answer for. But my suggestion is – Hang in there, it might be the greatest gift that you ever had cos it teaches you something fascinating – The power of self reliance. Too many of us try to depend on someone else to derive that strength, but the moment we realize that we have everything we need in ourselves to take care, it is sheer fascination in itself. You can give it any term you want, but I would like to call it ‘GROWTH’

I totally agree with you Vinay.. And sometimes these interruptions come from our inner self, call it lack of confidence or fear for society or incapability to hear harsh words from people…I believe success has got nothing to do with winning, it only defines trying. The moment we are able to break those interruptions, be it any kind, we are successful. Great post :)

Thank you Shruthi :). Nice to hear from you! I agree, sometimes the inner self poses the strongest challenge. I believe we are all very strong to ward off the external influence and the challenge it poses, but when it comes to the inner ones, those are much bigger challenges than they seem to be..

I like your thoughts on success, it has got nothing to do with winning. Winning is sometimes a sheer acknowledgement that we followed the right process, the real success of any goal perhaps lies in the effort and the whole morale of who you are and what you get to become through the process. :)

Great post. Not many of us have conviction to plod along in the face of adversity. It is a must to be different and to be successful.

Thank you Abhijit Ji :). True that! not many of us have to the conviction to keep going ahead when we hit a reef. I think it is sometimes even natural to stop when we hit a reef and reconsider. But it cannot be accepted when the reconsideration is giving up, continuing the metaphor, we have dived into the sea, the only way out is across :)

I guess nothing is impossible in this world, only thing which is required is the determination to do so, and those who have determined to do something, should not be ever stopped by anyone.
