You don’t need someone to complete you!

You don’t need someone to complete you: In today’s quote of the day, I’d like to talk about this lovely line – ” You don’t need someone to complete you”. As much as I’ve enjoyed all the definitions of love, I’ve also got a few complaints about how it’s glorified. Although romanticism is fantastic, it takes you away from the simplicity and beauty of the essence of love.

This quote was first featured in our collection – Inspirational love quotes where we talk about the various dimensions of love. But this probably is one of my favourites.

love is to complete you quote, someone to complete you, someone to accept you completely, inspiring love quotes
Inspiring Love Quotes 1 – You don’t need someone to complete you. You only need someone to accept you completely

Meaning of – You don’t need someone to complete you

The main crux in a quote analysis lies in what it means to you and the thoughts it encourages. For me, when someone says – you don’t need someone to complete you, the following thoughts come into mind

  • Love is not about becoming something or someone else
  • It is not even about receiving but giving and happiness
  • Love is richness in knowing who you are and constantly moving towards being the best version of you.

I’d take the last point with a pinch of salt. I don’t want to say that we are perfect. It is an awfully boring life if things are perfect. Love is about appreciating these imperfections about yourself to find the best way to live with each other. Ultimately, love is nothing if you don’t start by loving yourself.

How do you respond to this quote – It is about accepting who you are?

Although the first part of this quote is beautiful on its own merit, the second part is equally powerful. It makes me think about

  • Understanding who I am as a person
  • Appreciating this person without any judgement. Please note, this person comes with all the advantages and disadvantages of being human
  • Being critical about yourself and accepting the honest truth

Accepting yourself doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re perfect. You’re imperfect just like everyone else, but there’s a certain beauty in being aware of who you are. If you’re not able to appreciate and love that, then forget about this coming from someone else.

One final thought before we remind ourselves of today’s thought of the day – Love is internal, it is a beautiful process of knowing yourself and giving selflessly. It also has vulnerability, weakness and immense pleasure in honesty. Just embrace it all as you’d embrace yourself.

You don’t need someone to complete you, but someone to accept you completely
