As we discuss this quote “If you believe it will work out, you will see opportunities. If you believe it won’t, you will see obstacles” by Wayne Dyer, we touch upon factors of self belief, fear of failure and perseverance to make your dreams come true. Wayne Dyer is a renowned motivational speaker. His book Erroneous Zones is one of the best motivational books out there. Having read that book personally, it does have some nuggets of gold which can make a positive influence. The book is still known to be one of the best selling books of all time.
If you believe it will work out, you will see opportunities
Our minds are very capable, silly and docile at the same time. It is up to you to tame this mind to achieve the goals and dreams you want. Buddha spoke about conquering the battles within – the greatest victory is indeed about the one within.
The moment you are faced with a choice, the mind always has 2 options to think of
– THIS EXCITES ME
This excitement is a very powerful emotion.
It defines all the reasons why you can achieve a certain goal, puts you in a high achieving state with the belief that anything is possible.
It gets you inspired and makes you believe that you can truly do it
– THIS SCARES ME
These are your doubts, fears. William Shakespeare talked about Our doubts are our traitors. They make us think of all the nasty things that can happen if you take this decision and run with it. It tells you why it is not going to work out and you end up losing everything you have.
At this point, you have a choice – which part of the mind do you listen to? Of course, it is a lot harder than throwing a list of items you don’t like. But it is a pretty good starting point to decide what you focus on.
If you believe it won’t, you will see obstacles
Eventually, it is all about your beliefs. No matter what you decide to do, there will be a set of opportunities and obstacles. Both of them can be as big as you want them to be.
We do not recommend that you turn a blind eye towards these obstacles. That is absurd. But these obstacles have a reason. I recall Randy Pausch who says –The brick walls are there for a reason. They are there to test your commitment to the dream you hold so dearly.
You have got to decide what is more important to you: The dreams or your fears?
It is easy to succumb to either of them. But the end goal is to be aware of either. These can be impediments or stepping stones for your success. You can decide how you want to use them!
The moment you make that decision, stick to it and then formulate your ways around it.
Points to Note
As we tune in our discussion towards the beliefs, opportunities, obstacles and challenges, we like to leave with these key points for our discussion
- Only you can decide what to focus on. The moment you make this decision, make a commitment to it and give it everything it deserves
- Do not turn a blind eye towards obstacles. You must be aware of them and realistic about challenges. But, they are only present to help you
- You are the sole master of your mind. Yes, there will be problems, but nothing beyond the strength of your mind and its capability to focus
We would love to hear your thoughts and beliefs about this. Please join us with your comments below. The quote by Wayne Dyer for today is
If you believe it will work out, you will see opportunities. If you believe it won’t, you will see obstacles

Works all the time, if inlo we can remember it every time. I don’t see share buttons on the post.
Nice to hear from you Nandini. Thank you for pointing this out, I have now added share options on the article.
I agree with you, it is never easy to remember these things, especially if circumstances are not going our way. I guess all through the turmoil, at some point we need to raise our head above the challenges and note that it is a situation we have to deal with. knowing that there are not too many options outside of that, maybe it gives us a leeway to start thinking of what our possibilities can be.
Wonderfully put Vinay! It is that one point in any situation which determines ultimately if we are evolving are not. The more quick we are to get to that point, the more easy everything becomes.
Thank you Nandini :). I am a big believer in the moment of decisions – I think they have the power to shape us no matter what we are doing. The best part of this is, we are taking a decision at each stage
– What to think about?
– Do we look at opportunities or challenges?
– Do we find a way to put our thoughts in actions?
If we look at how much power we have to influence each activity, it makes us realise that we are indeed holding the reigns of our life and where we want to go next. Of course, there are always a tremendous amount of challenges.
– But do we let these challenges or circumstances stop us? And that too is a decision in the end isn’t it?
This quote by Wayne Dyer truly fascinates me. Just to know that there is so much of an action packed within us is an amazing feeling :)
it is correct with right mental state we can see opportunity. It is said, “you can, if you think you can.” Mind can create avenues and obstacles.
Thanks Abhijit, always a delight to hear from you. I liked Wayne Dyer a lot for his work in Erroneous Zones. In one of his interviews, he goes into explaining how impactful Bhagawadgita was on his own motivational front. It was very inspiring to see that he talks about this book in such great light.
It is all in the state of mind, the more we focus on opportunities, the more we find them. The same holds good for problems as well. If you think you can – you are right, if you think you cannot – you are right. I suppose that sums it up very well. It is all in the beauty of a state of mind :)
