22nd April, Earth Day: A Call To Mobilise

22nd April

Earth Day:

To increase awareness and demonstrate the environmental protection Earth Day came into existence in 1970 and is still continuing with the same motto. The theme of World Earth Day 2015 is “Water Wonderful World.” This annual event is celebrated on 22nd April in more than 192 countries. To honour the Earth and the concept of peace John McConnell proposed the Earth Day.

John McConnell:

John McConnell - Earth Day FounderJohn McConnell was a partner at a factory that manufactured plastic. He realised that the plastic production resulted in pollution. This resulted as one of the major reasons which invoked the sense of responsibility for him to save the earth.

John McConnell is well remembered for his peaceful intentions and acts. Whether it was the World War II or the call for the peaceful cooperation in the exploration of Space he was all there with his prayers, hopes and peace invoking thoughts.

Earth Day Anthem:

UNESCO considers Abhay Kumar’s Earth Anthem as a creative and inspiring thought to bring the world together.

“Our cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl
the most beautiful planet in the universe
all the continents and the oceans of the world
united we stand as flora and fauna
united we stand as species of one earth
black, brown, white, different colours
we are humans, the earth is our home.

Our cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl
the most beautiful planet in the universe
all the people and the nations of the world
all for one and one for all
united we unfurl the blue marble flag
black, brown, white, different colours
we are humans, the earth is our home.”

-Abhay K

Happy Earth Day. Now? What next?
The theme for 2015 says, “Water Wonderful World.” A reminder to save water and help this earth remain beautiful and if we can contribute a little to make it more beautiful then why not. Let’s do the small things right as the same small things set the big things right.
Let’s start with I and look at others. If you ask, “Why should only I, and not others?” Then Dr. Seuss has an answer for you.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
