Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday
Who doesn’t dream of an ideal body, those chiseled muscles and the feeling of fulfilment each time you look in the mirror? Who doesn’t love the feeling of pride as someone looks at you to check you out and see how attractive you are?
I know that we all dream of a dream body or a size zero figure or an athletic look or a mean look depending on what we want to look like. And I do know that at some point we all have tried joining a gym and it has been a great experience the first couple of months and it slowly starts getting boring and you find it hard to keep yourself motivated.
This post is dedicated to garner that motivation to go the gym everyday.
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : Why is it boring?
It is the routine isn’t it? We all get bored doing the same thing over and over again everyday.
I do understand that the programs are changing but it feels as though that we are in a rut and like everyone else with everything, we need a change, we need something to keep us excited, we need something which motivates us and makes us feel like we should wake up early for this and feel great to flex our muscles.
How to make it interesting?
There are plenty ways you can make it interesting. A few solutions you might have already tried
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : Find out a workout buddy
It is hard to work out alone but when you find someone committed to doing it, the energy flows and the other person makes sure that you are contributing regularly.
We all know how bad we feel to disappoint our friends, let alone disappointing ourselves.
But make sure that you find a committed one, someone who keeps a tab on you or someone who makes sure that you are there with them every day sweating it out. Some people prefer a personal trainer but that has its own limits.
We don’t mind disappointing a trainer but we do mind disappointing a friend.
So, find a work out buddy
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : Music
I love to hear music when I am working out. The same old music in the gym gets boring after a while.
I would like to be in control of what I listen to. Well, that is what your ipods are for or your cell phones are for.
Make sure that you have some really cool songs on the list, the ones you would love to listen.
Or if you want to manage time better, you get some lovely audio books which you can listen to and learn/reflect as you work out.
This way you get to spend more time on your reading.
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : Spend Money
You heard me right. Spend money on your work out gear, buy some lovely shoes, great work out gear, something you would love to wear everyday and flaunt yourself in it. Something you would feel good about.
At the same time, it acts as a mechanism to keep you on track. You would have spent so much money on it that you would hate for it to go a waste.
And we all spend so much money on eating, why not some on staying fit and maintaining our body?

Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : Don’t depend on the gym alone.
The same old routine at the gym is really boring and it is annoying to do the same thing over and over again.
Think! How can you make it better?
Your ultimate goal is to get fit! It is not about going to the gym everyday.
There are plenty other activities you can enjoy which can make you fit.
Find a sport you really like – swimming, basketball, football, running, shuttle badminton, tennis – there are so many of them which are very interesting, where there is an adrenaline rush of a sport, something you can really enjoy playing with/against other people.
You don’t have to rely on gymming alone.
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : If you are unable to exercise
Be very clear of one thing – it is ok not to be able to do a few exercises.
It is completely ok to let them go and instead focus on one thing and one thing only – why you are doing it.
Gym is just a way for you to reach your result and is not an end in itself. Find other ways if something doesn’t work out.
Constantly keep innovating yourself and trying something new, that way you will never get that bored easily. It is more about the big picture than the many small ones.
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : The goals
One of the most annoying things about a gym is that it takes time to give you results.
We all would love a place where we come out of the gym with the perfect figure we always dreamed of. But that is hardly ever the case. Gymming is hard work, it takes effort, it asks you to sweat out on a regular basis and then gives you a result.
We all are so focused on the final result that sometimes we forget about the intermediate results. We are so fixed on perfection that we forget to appreciate the change we are going through in the process.
Keep a tab on yourself, see the improvements in yourself. The improvements need not be just about reducing the weight, the improvement can be about saying no to fatty or junk food, it might be about being able to do one more push up than usual, it might be about how fresh you feel about yourself.
There are so many things that change when you work out, sometimes we just do not appreciate ourselves enough. Don’t fall into that trap!
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : How can you get better?
We all love improvements, we all love getting better and seeing that change in ourselves.
How can your today be better than Yday?
How can you make it better? Is it about doing one more repetition, is it about doing heavier weights, is it about finishing it faster.
Consciously focus on what you can do better today compared to Yday. What is the one change you would like to do.
And the change need not be huge, it has to be something very simple, something you can notice.
Quit being a perfectionist and enjoy the slight improvements in life. And this one, acts in a great way to improve your confidence about yourself.
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : Maintain a record.
How do you know where you stand, how do you know what you did Y’day and how you can improvise on it? –
Keep a tab, a tab to know where you stand, a tab which is not a judgement but just a way to tell you how you are doing and how you are going to get better than that, something that can motivate you.
For example if you are running, you can have a pedomenter, if you are swimming you can check the number of laps you do in a day.
See that there is a specific number so that you can try and find a way to keep breaking your own personal records
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : The Rewards
Well you have done such a great job at being regular to they gym, you surely deserve a reward.
I don’t mean that you should go to the nearest McD or KFC and order the fattest burger you can find with a thick cheese topping. I am talking about something elegant, something which is in the lines of the fitness program.
Reward yourself with a movie that you have always been wanting to watch, reward yourself with a book or a date or a special night with friends or a party out, something you might enjoy without ruining all this effort you have done so far.
Motivation To Go To The Gym Everyday : Gym can be fun
It is not just about going there and working like a machine and coming back home.
It is an activity, it is a sport, it is recreation – treat it that way. Make some friends, talk and interact with them, go out with them.
Plan a physical activity or a sport with them which you both might enjoy and yet stay on course of your fitness goal.
I am sure you can find plenty of those.

Hi Vinay,
Just loved your post. This is what exactly I have to do.
I was very regular to gym initially but since past 6 months I am just postponing it every single day. In a way Snap fitness is being benefited :P…Infact I even bought a new pair of shoes thinking it would motivate me to go..but then even that failed…Now after reading this post I feel there are many ways to start my gyming again and keep it going :)
Many thanks for this awesome post :)!
I just can’t motivate myself to go to the Gym, though it’s just a stone’s throw and I know I need to. On top of it I love chocolates. This post is just apt for me.
He he he :D , well who doesn’t love chocolates? ;).. It is good to have a gym nearby. Although I am used to the gyms, I like the outdoor sports better, they are much more engaging and provide better results. Plus they are a hell lot more fun :)
I think I should start this now , bw nice post !!
Thank you Abhishek. Good luck with it :)
There are so many reasons to go to gym now. Very much inspiring Vinay. :)
Thank you Ranjini. Good luck with the routine, please do let us know how it goes.
I am smiling ear to ear reading your post.. I think the most important motivation (when I used to go to the gym) is self motivation.. whatever that going to the gym was for.. And I found that once a routine is formed with or without a gym buddy, the music and the rewards, then it becomes an automatic routine. But the crucial point then is when the routine breaks even for a day for some reason.. the momentum goes away.. (then i think is when a gym buddy or a reward plan needs to set in to inspire) Nothing like a workout becoming as banal as brushing teeth after waking up in the morning.. :) I’m beginning to like your point posts..
He he thank you for the kind words mate. These posts usually go out with a lot of work from our end and it is really nice to be appreciated. I have been a fan of the gyms and had my earlier struggling dates and like you said – momentum does fade away and we somehow need to keep ourselves in track. Something that worked for me very well was the gym buddy, he was one committed guy who used to ensure that I would be there at the gym almost everyday!
This is quite an fun post for fitness freaks like me and even for those lazy goons to inculcate a fit regime towards a healthy lifestyle. Thanks a lot for sharing Vinay :)
He he thank you Maitreni. I guess we all get lazy at times. I think the toughest part is getting out of the bed and going to the gym – the moment we start doing that, the rest is pretty straight forward.
Good points for motivating. I have failed in this multiple times. I found outdoors more exciting and have been successful for 6 months now and hope this continues for longer :).
Thank you Arun. It is brilliant to know that you have been at it for 6 months consistently. Incidentally I was reading a study which mentioned that usually it takes about 6 months of time for a habit to become a subconscious part of us. They said that if you did something for 6 months without fail, the likelihood is that you will do it for life :).. I certainly like those odds.
Thanks Vinay for posting such an inspiring article. I don’t go to a gym but I do Yoga regularly. I love doing it. After 40 minutes of Yoga, I feel as if all my cells are smiling. That motivates me do be consistent with it. In the long run, I have reduced my anxiety levels and panic attacks. The feeling itself is beautiful.
Thanks again! Keep posting:):)
Thank you Shruti, it is really nice to know about your experience and kudos on making it very regularly. I too have really enjoyed the feeling of being fit and light. It makes me feel that I am in control of things and that feeling in itself like you said is very beautiful :)
Thank you Ryan :).> Good luck with them.
Do let us know how it goes :)
The most common excuse for me is, ” I want to sleep a little more” :-D . But then I motivate myself in my own ways and some of them are in common with yours….like music and buddies…:-) quite an inspirational post this one..great job done Vinay… :-)
Thank you Maniparna.. He he, I do that too. I don’t remember a day in the recent past when I have gotten up before 8am :D ..
Sometimes I find it boring to go to gym and follow the same old routine it good to have other sporting hobbies :) Love all the points you listed… quite inspiring :)
Thank you Najm. I recently started playing shuttle badminton to act upon these suggestions myself. And it really works, in a great way too :) ..
I love gyming, finding a buddy helps – well I motivate myself by saying I can have a sweetmeat if i workout through the week :)
Thank you Shweta :). I agree, a buddy really helps to keep you on track :)
AWESOME .. for a lazy like me…. loved the reward point ..till … you said “it does not mean to go to the nearest McD or KFC … :( :
… all in all motivating enough ! Thanks for this Vinay .. fitness is much needed .
Thank you Kokila :). I had slipped into a new routine from the past 3 months, never went to the gym – kept giving myself reasons and used to eat a hell lot. Now that I am back on the conscious ring, I thought it was about time that I made a post on it :)
He he :D.. About the reward, I am sure we all have been there, if it is not KFC burger, it is the ibaco ice cream :D .. The smaller sins of life :)
