Hi Mayuresh, always a delight to hear from you. True, regrets are very powerful distractions. But they can also be extremely powerful allies and motivators if we use them well.
I think both pain and pleasure have a really good way of motivating us. Pain unfortunately hurts and makes us think more.
Pleasure is a nice feeling of excitement and helps us to do more things with a lot of inspiration. On their own, both are very impactful emotions. As with anything, the outcome of these emotions lies with us. In case of regrets, it is a very clear pain because of something that went wrong in the past. Now, we can live in the past or follow the thoughts of this quote – Never regret yesterday!
Although it sounds fairly impossible, I would like to take the message of what the regret is trying to say and how best we can use it to move forward. After all, we are not just focused on feeling better, but on creating results and actions which matter to us. On that note, full respect to L RON HUBBARD.
“Never regret yesterday, life is in you today! “
]]>“After all your regret is also trying to tell you something. Listen to the message rather than falling into a guilt trip or an emotional roller coaster which distracts you from the final goal”..
Regret is one thing which can alter your path to sucess. It’ the most dreadful hurdle, if one has to be successful he/she has to get rid of it as early as possible.
Thanks for the article.
]]>Definitely Suman! Regrets and guilts are two big monsters to deal with. In my experience, both regrets and guilt have a way of compounding if they are not dealt with. There is a great deal of strength in dealing with regret and finding a response pattern to it.
With these feelings, like you said, it is never easy to find a closure. We find it in parts and find a reasonable end point to it. Regrets tend to resurface and keep asking you to do something about it. The answer truly is in focusing on today and finding a better way to answer the regret. On that note, I was penning an article on practical thoughts to overcome regret. . I know these things are never easy, but we cannot let them control us. The moment we let that happen, we tend to get into a negative spiral which often ends bad and grows.
I completely agree with your point on forgiveness, sometimes that is linked to an action. Maybe not one action but sometimes many of them to try and find solace in a temporary solution. Just like any negative emotion, a physiological action goes a long way in treating the symptoms of a problem. In this case, it is the bad feeling due to regret. If we find an action worth focusing on and define an answer pattern for our guilt, we are already making a headway towards responding to guilt and bringing the focus back to things which matter at that point in time.
