This Too Shall Pass!

There are many quotes and sentences that inspire us, cheer us up and make our success sweeter. However, there is one quote which does everything- THIS TOO SHALL PASS! For so many years, I have not found any other quote which has always-always made sense, irrespective of the situation.

There are different opinions about the origin of this statement. Some credit it to the Sufi poets and Jewish folklore while others believe that Bible, the benevolent author of many other wise teachings, mothered this profound statement too. Irrespective of its origin, the quote has been accepted and incorporated across all cultures in some form or the other. It has been used by preachers and mentors all across the world to convey the inevitability of continuity. And that is the underlying phenomenon for life on the planet.

This too shall pass can have different impacts when applied to different situations. And it can yield results accordingly.

In abject sadness– Loss of an individual close to us can push us into scariest depths of sadness and dejection. The feeling of “end of the world” becomes surprisingly real. And you see absolutely no reason to go on with your life. Just when you are hanging by that last thread of sanity, This too shall pass, comes to rescue. The knowledge that this pain will eventually subside somehow helps to stay afloat.

In failures– Failures are yet another inevitability of life. No man with a mission can claim that he has not seen any failures. Failures are, in fact, the true stepping stones to success. No amount of inspiration seems to work except the very fact that This Too Shall Pass. And when this has passed, it will give way to something new and better. There will be success in future only if you wish to go on and look for it.

In success– While you are basking in the glory of success, the realization that This Too Shall Pass makes you humble. It gives you a reality check to keep your feet on the ground. Just like not all failures are permanent, not all successes are here to stay forever. When you keep moving, you are bound to face a failure at some point. And hence, while you celebrate success, don’t forget to keep working hard because failure may be just round the corner.

In happiness– When you are happy and content, make it a point to thank those who have helped you in the journey. Thank the superior force for you were able to witness such happiness. People come and ask for help in need but forget to show gratitude when they are happy. It is only unwise to believe that sun will always be bright and shiny. It is the nature’s basic imperative that This Too Shall Pass.

Having led a life that was full of ups and downs, I can vouch with certainty that the realization of This Too Shall Pass has made me get up and work hard; inspired me to carry on even when it seemed really impossible; feel grateful and thankful for the abundance; and made me humble. Give it some serious thought and you will realize the profound meaning of it. Accept it as one of your mantras of life and you would realize that life becomes more benevolent.
