What We are Afraid of Doing!
Sometimes what you’re most afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free
Fear is a funny thing, it never sets us completely free and left to itself, it can find various ways to keep haunting us and questioning our confidence. It kinda becomes an imperative sometimes to find a way to get past it or else it can take over us completely and make us live a life which we don’t particularly like.
Our favourite post still happens to be the 11 Practical steps to overcoming fear in life. One of the first things we talk about is the identification of the root cause of the fear and seeing how exactly it pulls us down and makes us question our abilities. We then offset it against the cost of not getting over the fear. More often than not, it so happens that the cost of listening to the fear is larger than actually facing it. Granted that it is not the easiest thing to face it head on because we think that there is so much to lose. On the other hand, there is a lot more to lose if we do not find a way to tackle it. Sometimes all we need is that courage to go beyond the fear that pulls us behind and move forward. The only way, is through it and not around it.
Granted that it is never easy to face something head on. Our natural response is to try and find a way around it, see if there is a way we can avoid this whole experience. Rightly so, our mind is trying to avoid getting hurt or facing a disappointment. But the question here turns out to be between a short term view and a long term view. In the short run, yes of course it makes us feel comfortable in our own shoes, we do not have to face the state of being afraid or the concept of loss of something. The question is – What happens in the long run? What does living with this fear mean to you and me?
I guess the answer to this determines our next step. Our experience so far has taught us that the most natural response might not be the best solution sometimes. As always we are in limited control of a situation, but what we do about it can be something magical if we set our mind to it.
So yeah, “Sometimes, what you’re afraid of doing is the very thing that will set you free”
