Daily Quote: Sometimes The Smallest Step In The Right Direction Ends Up Being The Biggest Step Quote

Daily Quote

Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.

Going back to our tradition of a quote a day, today’s quote is about the smallest things we do in life. Most times, I realize that when I am stuck at a place, I have held myself back from taking an action. For example the Nepal situation, I know that I really feel like helping and I don’t really know what to do.The simplest thing I can do is make a donation in one of the available channels and somehow feel that I have lived at least a part of what I wanted to do. But I kept thinking if there is something more I can do.

In the whole process of thinking, I realize that all I have done is thought and haven’t really acted upon anything!

But I kept thinking if there is something more I can do. In the whole process of thinking, I realize that all I have done is thought and haven’t really acted upon anything!Does that sound any familiar? I mean I know that the intentions are good, but as long as there is no action, it doesn’t necessarily count right?

Does that sound any familiar? I mean I know that the intentions are good, but as long as there is no action, it doesn’t necessarily count right?

“We all are amazing people deep down at the heart. But what we do is what really counts”

Or how about

“Actions speak louder than words”

And so many other quotes like that. But why the hitch? What makes us hold back at the time of action? Why don’t we do something when we feel like?

I mean if I had done just the donation, I would have done at least that. I know that it is not much but it is something at least. I have come to realize that it is very easy to think of great things in life and not do anything about it. Motivation is a really interesting aspect of life, it pumps us up, makes us feel better and makes us feel that we can do anything and everything.

And that is really an amazing feeling. But mere motivation is not going to take us anywhere is it? I guess sometimes it is the biggest mistake waiting to make an effort in a grandiose manner. Things need not be grand always do they?

I am talking about Nepal just as an instance and I feel that there are so many moments in our lives where we have felt like doing a good thing but somehow held ourselves back. And the reasons are not always the same. Sometimes we feel that we are not capable and sometimes we question ourselves as to what others might think and sometimes we even think that what we do might not be sufficient at all and hence we don’t do anything – this is one of the top reasons which people who didn’t vote give. They simply say that mine alone is not going to make a difference!

Haven’t you all heard of that lame ass excuse or probably given yourself a few? I am not saying that any of these is wrong, but I am saying that these silly delay pointers we have in life can be met in simple ways and simple actions. Sometimes our efforts need not be real big or grand, they can be as simple as writing a letter to the injured or sending in a few flowers or condolences or anything at all which helps ease the situation.

Cos we all have our reasons, but in the end all that counts is what we do about it!

And if you are thinking of any other small thing in your life and a small step, go ahead and take one. And if you are thinking of a donation to Nepal, you can make it through flipkart here. I am just filing mine out!

  1. Such situation, I think, have been faced by all of us. Sometimes, a small step is really all we need to make it big. As for the Nepal disaster, I’ve made a small donation through Facebook. It was fast and easy.

P.S. Vinay, there is a repetition of the first stanza in this post. Please look into it.

    • Thank you Maniparna.. I had completely missed that. Have made that change right away :)..
I guess the moral conflicts are common for us all. Good to know that I am not the only one in the boat 😀 :). I kept wondering, I mean it is such a huge thing, how can people even think of reacting to something like that. Something of that huge magnitude?! Phew.. 🙁

  2. Great post again, no marketing and still a word of awareness for the cause. Thanks Vinay, Ill do mine now!

    • Thank you Shweta.. I think we all have that moral compass within us and it really feels good to respond to that.. But whatever I do, I know that it is so small and the difference it is going to make to the nepal quake victims is minimal to say the least..

  3. Yeah Vinay and its the first step which is the toughest too …in all situations in including this Nepal one. Thanks for the Flipkart option I was not aware about it ..
PS. You have still not changed that stanza 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • He he.. I had thought that the repetition was only in the first line.. Looks like I have repeated the entire paragraph :D.. I have now made that change :)..

The Nepal earthquake is really a very poignant thing, it makes me go completely numb. I mean how can someone even face a calamity like that.

  4. Vinay sir u r really gr8….. U r truely an inspiration… I want to b like u….i mean how can any 1 think so well…write so well…n do everything so well.#respect

Action speaks louder than word…n u olways motivate us to tk that actions on time…!!
