Richard Attenborough: 5 inspiring things you have’t come across

If you have seen Jurassic Park you are sure to remember him. The veteran Actor Richard Attenborough passed away recently at the age of 90. He was best known for his roles in Jurassic Park, The Great Escape, 10 Rillington Place, Miracle on 34th Street. He was the director and producer of “Gandhi” which won 2 oscars.

Here are 5 interesting facts about Richard Attenborough

Attenborough battled for 20 years to bring out his movie Gandhi

If you have watched the Gandhi (1982 movie) you wouldn’t hold back to appreciate the work of the director Richard Attenborough and the actor Ben Kingsley. The movie touches our heart. Making this movie was never an easy task for Attenborough. He struggled for 20 years to raise money and find producers, he received a lot of rejections but finally he ended up by producing all by himself. The two Oscar winning Gandhi was made by mortgaging his house and today Gandhi is a very well appreciated movie all over the world.

Mortgaging house is a big risk for anybody but Attenborough did it and made the movie Gandhi. Attenborough showed that big risks in life to accomplish big desires. It reminds me of the beautiful lines by Helen Keller “Security is mostly a superstition. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing”

Charlie Chaplin’s movie inspired him

Attenborough served in the Royal Air Force initially. He was inspired by Charlie Chaplin’s movie and in one of the interviews he said “I saw people laughing and crying into their handkerchiefs, and on the train back to Leicester, I said to myself, ‘I want to do that, too’”

Sometimes it feels that inspiration or motivation comes from a great event of life but it took just a movie for Attenborough to find a way for his life. Inspiration can come with the small events of life. All you need to do is to believe that you will find your way one day and keep your spirits high to explore your life.

“On my last day of shooting, I’d be happy to say: ‘Cut, it’s a wrap’ and fall off the twig.”

Attenborough loved his work and this is what he said when he was asked upon working till the end of his life. It makes me wonder how many of us think like this about life. Work is not just a way to earn money or a living, there is a lot more to it. There is a lot of life involved in every work we do and if that is a significant part of life, loving it can make a HUGE difference indeed :)

“Never admit you’re tired, darling”

We all feel tired, we all feel that things are not going anywhere and there is sometimes a constant nagging feeling that you are missing something. But it is all a true process, it is the process of growth, passion and your dream. It is not just that we don’t get tired, we all do, but that is just physical. Your true passion takes you beyond it!

“I came from a family who believed that in order to justify the sort of luxurious life that the majority of us have, related to the whole world, that you had to do something.”

Nothing ever comes without efforts. If you want something, you have to go get it. Attenborough is one such example who lived his dream, created the luxury he desired.
