Nick Kyrgis rewrites history via Nadal

I guess history finds a way to repeat itself and today it is in the form of Kyrgis who defeats Nadal. The news and the press are all praise for Nick Kyrgios who becomes the first teenager to beat a No.1 at grand slam since Rafa Nadal did it in 2005, almost about 9 years ago. The lats time a teenager did this feat, it was Rafa Nadal who was only 17 years old and made history defeating the No.1 in straight sets.

All PRAISE FOR KYRGIS

I am sure the presses are all praise for the fantastic feat and so are we. It is a delightful feeling to know that a record has been created and to know that no one had repeated this since 9 years and it happens now is a fantastic feeling indeed. Although I am a staunch supporter of Rafa Nadal and did feel a little bad that he lost, it was a different feeling to see a teenager posting a record.

HISTORY HAS ALWAYS BEEN THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE STRIVED TO BE DIFFERENT

I have always loved the thought of someone doing something different and it is extremely motivating to say the least when someone does something which most people believe cannot be done. And I don’t think many had expected Kyrgis to defeat Rafa in the match yesterday but it did happen in a flambuoyant manner. Here are a few gems of thoughts from Kyrgis

YOU HAVE GOT TO BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN WIN

“You’ve got to believe you can win the match from the start. I’ve been playing some incredible tennis on the grass. I didn’t know what to do when I won. I just turned to everyone who’s been supporting me my whole life. I love every single one of them. They get me over the line.”

BELIEFS AND ACTIONS IN TANDEM

I love it when someone talks about belief and how it influences the actions. I do agree that most people do believe that they can and they lose and we do not write about them, maybe we are hypocrites that way. But we do prefer to be that cos this is where we can derive most motivation from. I agree that belief alone would not have made this happen, would not have made any of this happen but to to know that it does play a crucial role in making a difference is a fair enough knowledge indeed.

FEAR PLAYS A ROLE TOO

Kyrgios admitted that he played with abandon because he did not worry about the consequences. There was no reputation to uphold. Kyrgios called it “a pillow to fall back on.”

Some of them claim the above statement which I agree to. It might make a difference to play fearlessly and approach with a nothing to lose attitude, take some risks and put on the bold face which might not be the easisest thing to do for someone with a baggage of success behind. I am too small to make any analyses or thoughts of the mindsets of these people but I can certainly find good set of take aways from the match

TAKE AWAYS FROM THE FEAT

1) Just cos no one hasn’t done it in the past doesn’t mean you can’t create history

2) Everything starts with a belief, a belief that drives you forward, a belief that makes you do things which you normally wouldn’t, a belief that you have got everything it takes to make it there

3) Play without fear. No matter what someone says about fear, I really do believe that it exists there, maybe I am not that evolved to lead a fearless life but I somehow feel that we all have it somewhere. It is of course a choice whether to let it control us or set it aside and keep it at bay cos there are more important things to do.

4) It is only when the competition is tough, your accomplishments are valued. Keep your dreams big and the beliefs as well. The rest will follow
