When someone says #madeofgreat, a lot of images flash over my head and I wonder which one would be the best fit here. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing people and more importantly to be influenced by their thoughts and outlook of life. And I believe it is one of the greatest gifts I have got and proud to have them as a part of my life.
And as I write this post today for the Tata Made Of Great prompt, I wonder who I can write about and at the same time can’t help but feel incredibly lucky that I have met some amazing people in my life. And the one I am going to write about today is my namesake, the one person who I always seek counsel with, someone who has always shaped me and helped me look at my life a little better, from the bigger picture. His Name – Vinay Kumar.
Our introduction started in 2009 when we both got an interview call from the Indian Administrative Services for clearing the IAS exams. I was this incredibly proud, haughty kid who had all airs about him of having cleared the mains in my first attempt. He was the complete opposite, an extremely humble guy and me being the usual self was a little condescending. Friendship grew with a common goal and we both went to the interview. Unfortunately neither of us made it through, but looking back now – it was one of the key requirements for both of our lives.
Our lives took different turns, I went on to work on an entrepreneurship idea while Vinay continued his study. His stint with study continues even today as three years ago he started his venture – insightsonindia.com which is now one of the most popular upsc exam preparation websites in India and his mock test papers have had the best response I could have ever imagined. I have been privileged to know his journey from the start, what motivated him and how he held himself through the process. A few take aways for me and what according to me makes his #madeofgreat.
I love his resilience and the way he responds to a situation. He always seems to have the BIG PICTURE view and nothing really seems to rattle him. His attitude is one of his biggest strengths and it shows all through. The care he has for people around him is so obvious and almost very infectious too. I have seen a lot of people in business and a lot of them in customer service who claim that they care about people and they believe in making people happy. I have never heard this guy say that – but he does it, very consciously, he has always been there for people he cares and for the work he does. The hard work, perseverance are always the talked things about success in life and I have seen it in function. But what strikes me the most is the attitude, cos as we grow up we realize that life throws a lot of things at us and how we take it, how we respond to it matters a lot. And that response makes all the difference in the world.
And that according to me defines the #madeofgreat or not!
