5 Hindi Movies In The World’s Top 250-IMDB
I was looking at the IMDB Top 250 today to see how many of those movies I have watched. It was quite a lovely feel to see that there were a good number of movies in that list which I had watched and loved. It was a brilliant trip down the memory lane to see how many wonderful movies I have watched and a greater delight to know that I still have some more amazing ones to watch :).
But something that stuck to me was when I started looking for Indian movies in that list, most specifically, the top movies from Bollywood which makes it to the world’s best 250 movies in the IMDB listing. I have always found this listing very reliable and naturally I was proud to see these movies on the list. There were 6 hindi movies in that list and I am proud to say I have watched them all. As you had expected, Slum Dog Millionaire made it to the list but I would not consider it a bollywood movie, so that goes off the list which leaves only 5 movies. Those were:
- Rank 117 – Taare Zameen Par
- Rank 127 – 3 Idiots
- Rank 158 – Dil Chahta Hai
- Rank 160 – Rang De Basanti
- Rank 221 – Lagaan
Do you observe something very interesting here? All these movies are without doubt among the best produced and directed by bollywood, but something more special than that is the one thing which is common in the only 5 Hindi Movies that made to the top 250.
Yup! You got it right! All of these movies have that one common bit in them – AAMIR KHAN!
I have always had a huge respect for him as an actor and also him as a person. I think there are very few actors out there who I can associate with a value and Aamir is certainly a prime one among them. Not just through his contribution via Satyameva Jayate, I have found his other attributes very impressive. He is never in the face of someone else to market his movies. I think he is one of the very few actors who has maintained his restraint when it comes to aggressive marketing. I think he is also among the few who have drawn that thin line of difference between restraint and respect to the viewer. And I am really proud to see his movies here in the list and hopefully a lot more inspiring ones to come.
