Indian Kailash Wins Nobel Peace Prize

Much awaited 2014 Nobel Peace Award is announced today, the 10th of October and the winners are Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan and Kailash Satyarthi of India.  It conveys a beautiful message for the two countries, India and Pakistan. Hope this news will bring some positive changes on the on-going issue.

Indian Kailash Wins Nobel Peace Prize

Kailash Satyarthi is an Indian children’s rights activist. Since 1990s he has been active in Indian movement against child labour.  Satyarthi has campaigned worldwide on social issues involving children. He highlighted child labour as human rights issue. His organization, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, has freed over 80,000 children from various forms of slavery and has helped in successful rehabilitation and  education. he set global conventions of child trafficking. He is known as upholding Gandhian values. It’s the 8th Nobel award for India, with Satyarthi being the 2nd one to win Nobel Peace Award from India, first being Mother Teresa.

 

Malala Yousafzai. Once a 11-year-old girl from the Swat Valley of Pakistan raised a question “ How dare Taliban take away my basic right to education?”  She was attempted for assassination by the Tabilan when she was 15. Malala is 17 years old today and still continues to speak out the importance of educating children and has kept her fight going on. Alfred Nobel when he signed his last will and testament, wrote his largest share of fortune to a series of  prizes which was named after him as Nobel Prizes. A part of his will was dedicated to “The person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”Nobel Peace Prize.

2013 Nobel Peace Award Winner was the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for it’s extensive efforts to eliminate chemical weapons. 94 Nobel Peace Prizes have been awarded since 1901 and this being the 95th award. The two winners sure deserve the award. They have struggled for the rights of children, for their welfare and human excellence.
