Ultimately, our success depends on how well we use our time to get the results we truly desire. There will never be enough hours during the day to do everything we want. And that’s a clear indicator that we ought to be very choosy of the things that we will be willing to spend our time on.

Better three hours too soon, than one minute too late – William Shakespeare

If you are a student thinking about deadlines, this is a good way to prepare early. Our final deadlines are the last possible extension of time. The best way to accelerate this is by taking inspiration from Shakespeare and preparing for the delivery sooner. Not only does this help us prevent procrastination, but gives us enough time for review and revision. As a student, we can’t afford to do everything last minute as it compromises the quality of the output.

Don’t be fooled by the calendar, there are only as many days in a year as you can make use of – Charles Richards

This is a stark reminder of our lethargy and procrastination. The number one enemy of time management is the belief that we will have more time tomorrow. As we know, the time runs out and the deadline appears much faster than we are prepared for. Things don’t get easier with time, nor do we have more time in the future. Instead, it creates a huge amount of pressure when the days run out and we feel like we have to complete a lot in a very short timeline.

The key is in not spending time, but in investing it – Stephen Covey

As a student, we tend to take time for granted. But this time runs out very quickly. The best utilisation of time is in investing it to make sure that it gives us results. This investment can be in the form of learning a new skill or applying for jobs. Sometimes, it can also be about networking and meeting the right people to help you create something of value. Instead of looking at time as something to spend, maybe we need to review it as an investment and make sure we do that cleverly.

This time like all times is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it – Ralph Waldo Emerson

The best way to address this is by breaking down a large project into clear deliverables.

The focus of these time management quotes for students is not only to give inspiration but to provide practical thoughts to common problems. A common one at that is managing project deadlines and defining key tasks that lead to outcomes.

To think too long about doing a thing often becomes its undoing – Eva Young

Decision-making is a key skill for time management. This quote is in line with the previous one about prioritisation. Planning is a crucial part of time management as a student. Your results depend on your planning. Don’t wait for perfection, start something – it will guide you with better results and feedback to improve your plan.

A wise person does at once, what a fool does at last. Both do the same thing, only at different times.

We would like to end this without trying to sound too harsh. We can always pass and we can always do an average job. But we can also do an amazing job and be smart at it. It is how you plan yourself and take responsibility for the same. Played right, effective time management can give you a great sense of accomplishment and the feeling of staying on top of things.

  4. Ha ha, well even I like the last minute rush. But over time, I realise that there are more mistakes in the last minute projects I have done. Although it has felt great doing them, the effectiveness has certainly reduced. I guess the time pressure brings out a nice adrenaline rush, but the preparedness can sure go a longer way.
