10 Brilliant Quotes On Excuses In Life – Self Pity, Rationalization And More

Excuses in Life

NO EXCUSESAs I start this post, I look back at my dream catalogue and wonder how much I have achieved in it and how much needs to be done. To be brutally honest, I can say that there is some stuff which I am really proud of and there is a lot of stuff which I am really not.

And the one common factor about the stuff I am not proud about, the ones I have absolute regrets for – ARE THE ONES WHICH I DIDN’T TRY. I recall the reasons I have given myself for not doing a few things in life and each one of these reasons are more logical than the previous one. That makes me question – It is not that life has gotten easier or that I have grown up a bit. It is just that I have gotten so good at giving excuses that it doesn’t seem that hard anymore.

Over the years, I realize that there are these few demons which we all use and let us just describe them for the sake of definition:

Excuses:

A reason or an explanation given to justify an action.

And most times I realize that this goes into justifying an inaction over action. Truth is people don’t seem to mind actions anymore, nor do we with our own lives, it is those situations where we don’t take the initiative which slowly starts screwing up our lives a bit.

Self Pity

This is perhaps the easiest thing to do. When things are going wrong, we naturally feel bad and we are so well trained either by the society or by our own education or cultural tuning or whatever reason there is in this world, we simply find a way to feel sorry for ourselves. Not that it is going to solve any of our troubles but it gives a momentary solace when you or I are feeling bad about ourselves.

Rationalization

This is the simplest and the most common explanation we give for any of our actions which we are not particularly proud of. The could have’s and the would have’s have sucked our lives by inches and they still manage to do so. And the simplest reason why we cling to rationalization is that our ego doesn’t get hurt and things seem a little less screwed up. Although all these answers are the ones which we give others and sometimes ourselves, the only question I have is this –

Who are you kidding?

People will always nod their head to what you say. They may give you a sympathetic ear but that is not going to solve anything for you. The results of your life and the outcomes are going to make a lot of difference. Don’t just sacrifice that for what you are really capable of. Don’t tell yourself a lie. If you couldn’t do something – Just tell that you couldn’t – Don’t ever tell yourself that you could have BUT..

Something we all know is that the BUT is always bigger!!

But you and I can achieve nothing with this but, it is only our actions which can make a difference to our lives whether we really like it or not.

Here is a wonderful video which can change the line of thought about self pity, rationalization and those silly excuses which we give ourselves. Guess it is time to get out of that couch and tell yourself the truth for the truth alone can set you free. Before I leave you, I shall leave you with this video and a few of our favourite excerpts from that video.

  1. Hey vinay

thank you again for such an awesome list of quotes on excuses in life. Very unique and creative I must say. Thank you again for the post.

  2. I guess unknowingly we are trained to come up with excuses, maybe cos it is the easies thing to do and evade responsibility. But I guess in the end all that matters is the final result and how happy we are with it. The more we have to complain about it, the more we can be sure that we are terribly wrong somewhere.

  3. As they say Vinay, if you really want something, you’ll find a way, if you don’t you’ll find an excuse. So as you have rightly pointed out, first we need to get ourselves out of the habit of coming up with excuses, if we really want to work towards a goal.
